The Skelly family just got back from a whirlwind 48-hour trip to hurricane Irene country! We flew out last Thursday afternoon to White Plains, NY to attend a family wedding on Saturday morning in Rutherford, NJ...little did we know that Irene would cause many hiccups with our travels...Liam did awesome on the departure flight - receiving his "first flight certificate" signed by the Captain, First Officer and all flight attendants on-board. He fell asleep 10 minutes prior to the landing gear coming down and proceeded to sleep through getting off the plane. We got the rental car at the airport and made the 45 minute drive to our hotel in NJ...we enjoyed some Bruno's NY style pizza LATE Thursday evening...
Friday proved to be a nice day in the city - beginning with a stop at Carlos Bakery in Hoboken, NJ...after buying some tasty treats we drove to the Harrison Station - taking the NJ Transit into Manhattan to see Ground Zero and FAO Schwartz...Liam LOVED Lego land and the large stuffed animals...after a Subway ride and Taxi ride we came back to the hotel and enjoyed fish and chips from a local Rutherford, NJ restaurant...
Saturday morning daddy woke up - put on his tux and got ready to stand up in the Hogan/White wedding...Hurricane Irene caused our return flight to be moved from 4:00pm Sunday to 1:45pm Saturday - so we left right after the ceremony to head back to White Plains, NY (they were shutting down the airport around 6pm Saturday)...we made it to the airport in time to throw the rental car keys at the AVIS attendant, run through security (thankfully about the size of our kitchen at home) and run 5 feet to the gate...we had about 3 minutes until boarding began...enough time for mommy to change Liam before take off...
Again, Liam did awesome on the flight back - Uncle Jared, daddy and I were able to keep him entertained...although some flirting and laughing with passengers behind us helped a lot. About 10 minutes before the landing gear fell he pooped out again and stayed asleep until we got off the plane at Hartsfield.
We were thankful to get out of the NJ/NY area when we did - because at 12:00pm Saturday all NY/NJ transit was being shut down and the rain had already started to come in...after arriving back home we learned that Irene was down-graded to a category 1...we're still praying that Gammy, Grandpa and Auntie Meghan get out on time Monday afternoon!!!
